The Weather Was Gorgeous Today...

...but I just had a few minutes to stack thanks to the damned Job Search. I had an interview today so had to run off without dedicating ample time to the rocks. Damn my need for sustinence. Damn the rent.

I really like this one. I hope the birds don't find it too attractive perchively speaking.

Then did these guys.

An Apology Is Due...

...I think, to gravity. This morning I was standing at the kitchen window filling the coffee pot and looked out to see a bird perched atop one of my balances. It stood for a moment, and when it took off, it pushed the top stone off of the stack. Maybe gravity has been innocent of the daily demise of the more delicate stacks I have been repairing. I had always suspected foul play on the part of the squirrel contingency that lurks in the yard, but never did I contemplate aviary avarice. I must have a plan.

Pilgrimage Postponed...

...due to weather and employment. I ended up scrapping the road trip to Dave's Avant Garden because the weather turned horrible. Dave also had a meeting that he had to attend. The two factors together made this an undesirable week for a long distance stacking adventure. I'm gonna see what I can put together for next week. You'll be the second to know.

Gravity Was Angry With Me...

...and took my early afternoon's work down to earth, so I decided to bring in some new blood and mix it up a bit. I used the last of the day's light to start over. You'll see in a second. I brought in some other stones and regrouped. The one in back fell as I went in to get my gloves, taking the front one with it. Back at it again.

I rebuilt the one in back first. It's pretty solid. The one in front toppled about ten seconds after I put the camera down. What to do but rebuild.

This time the one in front stood for about fifteen minutes while I did another. Then gravity took its awful toll again.

And the day ends.

Rockin' Road Trip

On Wednesday morning I'll be making a pilgrimage to Dave's Avant Garden in Asheville. I have to empty my trunk tomorrow and charge the camera batteries up for the trip. I expect to get about four miles per gallon coming home with a car full of rocks from three states. I also expect a sick number of photos for you people to scroll through. Be sure to check his link on the left. He's been busy lately.
I haven't seen his kids since 1994, when they lived in California. I'm sure they're taller now and know more words than "'Inja Turtles." It'll be great to see Anne and the gang and to enjoy the unparalleled hospitality of stately Russell Manor.

Been Under The Weather...

... in a couple of ways. The weather has been lousy and I've been sick as well. I did go out and snap this one on Saturday. It was sleeting and cold. Not good stacking weather.
I got out for a few this afternoon. Tried some stuff Dave was telling me about. Doing another kind of dependant balance. See below.

This one and the next one are both dependant stacks, in that the top two rocks were put together before balancing on the third.

The other dependant. Does not qualify for a tax break, however.

This one keeps falling so I keep putting it back up with a new top. Soon it will tell me which it prefers.

End of the session. My hands are cold.
