Weather Report Suite...

..windy and cold the past two days. No stacking. I hope to get out this morning if it's warm and do a bit. I liberated a few more stones from the construction site on Wednesday night, so we'll see how it goes. I just Snow-Sealed my gloves and boots, so at least my next rain and cold stacks will be a bit more comfortable.

New Blocks For The Kid...

...so I worked in the misty rain today before my interview. I ended up using every rock I had. It's a good feeling. When I left the house, however, the wind and rain picked up and, when I got home, only four were left. You know what that means...tomorrow I'll have something to do. You take the good with the bad.

New granite and old sandstone.

Just a quicky.

Rebuilt this one.

All rocks used. I'm off to the interview.

Reason Number 38...

why Dave is my geo-guru. He introduced me to a new concept, although unwittingly. The concept is litho-liberation. That is, freeing stones from a situation which they (the stones) would understandably find frustrating or which would not allow them their full potential. He didn't actually try to teach me this, I just extrapolated it from a brief email. Forgive me if I have gone to far with a simple statement, Dave. On the way home from work, I stopped by a construction site nearby and liberated some granite from a fate that I believe they would find to be beneath them. I don't know what their actual objective destiny was, but it looked like they were about to be a wall or a simple curb. Not good. Just look what they were able to do in one night! And all of this with total darkness. These guys fell together magically. It was totally feel, sound, and communication between us in the dark. Forgive the digital enhancement of the photos, but these guys love thier new home. I feel it.

I think they like it here.

All the light I had.

Basking in the afterglow.

Whether it's climbing or stacking, you just can't beat granite. These guys just all fell toghether. When you stack granite you can feel it click, you can hear it click, and you just know that it clicks. Same when you're climbing. Your shoes glue to it, your gear glues to it: it feels good. More later on sandstone, and its glories.

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Little by little, that's how. I have another interview today so I just got out and moved a few stones around. I actually took down two stacks to try some different things. I need to take a field trip (literally) to find a good area to stack in with loads of stones. I keep restacking the same rocks here at home. I hope to get up to Dave's tomorrow for a day of stacking in his garden. We'll see if weather permits.

The garden grows. It's been fun watching the neighborhood dog walkers double take on the stacks.

These are today's newbies. The one on the left is crazy dependent. The top three stones all need one another to balance. The middle one (reddish) has been dying for a place of importance in the scheme. I hope he'll be happy here for a while.
